Hermen Greenberg’s original vision of the park is that of an Olympic Class Equestrian Center complete with competition-sized outdoor rings and an indoor arena.
The unique joint public-partnership of the MNPPC and the Woodstock Equestrian Park Foundation are dedicated to:
- the mission of making this vision a reality
- reserving and enhancing local equestrian tradition for current and future generations
- a vital priority is ensuring that the park's natural trails and precious open spaces are protected
A first draft of a Master Plan for the Rickman side of Woodstock is now available. The plan calls for:
- two outdoor rings (120' by 260' and 300' by230)
- additional parking for special events
- small paddocks
- a large grass jump field,
- and a schooling ring
The total price tag for the park plan will exceed its original estimated cost of $10 million.
It's worth noting that the shape this park will eventually take is still very much in flux. County officials, while supportive of the project, vary between wanting to control every aspect and wanting to "offload" it in a lease arrangement where a private individual or group would bear all responsibility for park maintenance and evelopment. This latter scenario would be highly risky and could doom the park at this critical early stage in its development.
We will all need to closely monitor developments and remain involved to ensure that this precious resource does not veer off in an undesirable direction. Your continued support and involvement is critical!
